Why should I hire a Wedding Planner?
I can't afford one
It's not as important as other things
A wedding planner can actually save you time and money by matching your requests with suppliers they already know and recommend and can negotiate deals on your behalf, getting you the best prices for the things you want on your special day.
Busy couples nowadays don't have the time in their schedules to be contacting different suppliers all day to get the best prices for flowers or sweet carts - planners prove invaluable when finding, organizing and managing suppliers.
The venue coordinator said I won't need one
The venue's coordinator is there for the venue - not for you. They are there to make sure the services they provide run smoothly and efficiently. While this is very admirable, when the wrong flowers are delivered or guests are still milling around when you want them sat for their meal, the venue coordinator will not be there to help, as it is not their job.
Family and friends will help on the day
These people will be your guests on the day - unless they are professional planners their focus will be on you and those family members that only show up at weddings. They will be drinking, dancing and enjoying themselves - as they should after all the effort you've put into the day!
This will leave all the little details unnoticed and the big things will end up coming to you - causing you stress you do not need on your day. As planners we have your needs and specifications set out so in any event we can deal with the problem as it arises without having to interrupt your day.
Shouldn't the suppliers be able to sort themselves out?
The suppliers will be able to do what they always do - they will find a space to set up, they will do their job and they will leave afterwards. Without someone there who knows where you want everything the candy cart might end up where the DJ was going to set up, leaving no space for the equipment required to entertain your guests.
They would also keep asking you when you wanted things done - first dance, cutting of the cake, when you want the microphone for the speeches. A wedding planner would have this all handled so everything ran smoothly and properly without any hiccups along the way.
I want to plan it all myself - it can't be that hard
Think of a wedding planner as a filtering system. If you look through a wedding magazine you will see hundreds of ads for florists, caterers, sweet carts, bakers, hair stylists - you name it, they'll be in there in droves. A planner can help you sift through these to find one that's available for what you want when you want it, that is reputable and reliable. They will have knowledge and insight into the suppliers that will suit you.
They have a huge wealth of knowledge about all things wedding related and are there to help if you only ask.
My family, in-laws and friends want to help me plan it
You, your parents and your in laws to be may have very different ideas of how your wedding should be.
A planner you hire is there for you, to help get you what you want for your day. They will be able to mediate between you and others and give informed advice about ideas and expectations of your big day.
Remember it is impossible to please everyone, but arguing with your mother in law about the colour of your flowers would not be a good start to married life!
